Description
The role will play a central part in ensuring the safe daily operation of our facility. Providing health and Safety support, in conjunction with the H&S Advisor, to the Institute and contributing to the smooth running of our labs. The role is very much hands-on working within a small, high performing SHE team with a values-based culture. Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:
  • Ensuring staff are familiar with H&S risks and controls and emergency procedures
  • Carry out site H&S Inductions for new employees.
  • Assist the H&S inspections, audits, preparing reports and ensuring resolution of any issues arising by collaborating with Lab Managers and staff.
  • Assist with carrying out DSE assessment and actioning any requirements including if necessary occupational health visits.  
  • Support the H&S work plan.
  • Assist in preparing H&S documentation (Safety Codes etc)
  • Actively participate in Health and Safety committee meetings.
  • Writing and overseeing regular reviews and issue of documents for training.
  • Assist with ensuring all employees complete training on the relevant Safety Codes:
  • Risk assessments, Incident Reporting and investigation, COSHH
  • Assist with accident and incident reporting and investigations.
  • Assist with maintaining fire procedures, including drill, regular check on all equipment.
  • Assist with arranging regular training of First aiders, Fire Marshals.
  • Assist with overseeing the correct disposal of hazardous waste in line with policy and regulations
  • Support for periodic inspections (Lab manager monthly, H&S 6 monthly & annual audit)
  • Support scientists and visitors with ad hoc requests.
  • To be aware of and exercise personal and Institute responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act and other related matters.
  • To carry out any other duties as required by the Health and Safety Advisor to deliver the wider service to the company within the skills of the post holder.

  • Health and safety knowledge and experience desirable
Relevant Health and Safety qualifications or willing to gain qualifications
