- Description
- We are recruiting for a Senior Purchaser to join the Purchasing team within the Operations department. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Senior Purchaser is responsible for sourcing, negotiating and buying goods, materials and services to meet operational requirements, taking into consideration, price, quality, delivery and continuity of supply. In addition, the Senior Purchaser ensures the successful management of new and existing suppliers, as well as analysing current procedures to create the most effective and cost-efficient methods for day-to-day operations.
Essential Skills:- Purchasing of Electronics: It is essential that candidate have proven, recent, experience of purchasing electronic components and materials within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Supplier Management: Foster and maintain successful working relationships that are advantageous to the organisation in terms of cost and performance. Manage the supplier performance management process.
- Candidates must be comfortable dealing with suppliers to negotiate prices, including placing purchase contracts and call-off orders. Holds suppliers accountable for delivering on time and in full and is comfortable following up late deliveries.
- Forecasting: Experience converting sales demand and forecast information into a planned ordering/delivery schedule.
- Materials: Understands how bill of materials and subassemblies work to build electronics-based products.
- IT skills: Experience of using an MRP system is essential. Some experience of 123 Insight would be advantageous. Good experience of Microsoft Office.
- Able to guide and manage other (less senior) purchasers, Knowledge of ISO9001 and ISO17025 and CIPS qualification would be desirable.
- Communication: Can communicate information concisely to internal stakeholders regarding late delivery of components, understands the related commercial implications, and offers mitigation strategies where possible.
- Team Working: Enjoys working on own and collaboratively, with people inside and outside the Purchasing and Stores team.
- Building Relationships: Able to build and maintain effective supplier relationships, and support in developing these further by attending exhibitions and assisting supplier visits.
- Organised and Versatile: Able to create a structure for information and collate the information in an organised way and in a timely manner. Able to maintain control in all aspects of purchasing and is happy to perform a wide range of tasks adapting to changing priorities.
- Proactive: Able to identify threats and takes appropriate action before problems arise. Forward planner to ensure supplies arrive sufficiently in advance of need.
- Assertiveness: Candidate has a certain level of confidence and assertiveness which is required when dealing with suppliers. Able to hold suppliers to account for quality and reliability of supply of goods.
- Process Driven: Challenging current procedures to identify new ways of working to improve effectiveness. Also ensure that processes and internal systems are compliant.
- Attention to detail: Sets high standards of professionalism and expects others to work to high standards too.
