Job overview
To drive scientific and strategic thinking in key accounts across the business as an active part of the leadership and management teams within the company. To work alongside the Managing Director, Account Directors and Principle Medical Writer to deliver strategic plans, lead workshops and contribute to pitches where needed.
Responsibilities and duties
Leadership- Senior leader and strategic scientific thinker within the business, working on the delivery of vision, goals and business plan
- Senior point of contact for key clients, building confidence in the high-level scientific acumen and scientific partnership offered
- Interact with client medical leads and external experts on a peer-to-peer basis regarding science/strategy and current clinical inertia/practice
- Lead scientific discussions with credibility and authority demonstrating broad therapy area knowledge
- Work with the senior team members within the editorial team to ensure that content meets the relevant industry practice, publications and compliance codes
- Provide best practice training to internal teams along with senior team members where needed
- Support the development of new business opportunities and organic growth, leading pitches when needed
Results and delivery - strategic thinking- Have a deep understanding of client’s scientific strategy, and keep abreast of latest medical/scientific advances
- Understand clients' strategic objectives and work with editorial/writing team to deliver the optimal approach
- Proactively alert clients and provide key insights into scientific, industry and competitor developments which may impact strategy or content
- Work with advisors and clients to develop relevant and engaging thought leader development programmes
- Provide strategic council and act as strategic lead for client programmes, pitches and requests for proposals
- Lead and participate in brainstorms, workshops and planning activities for client and internal teams
- Provide strategic insight to the editorial/writing team and be a key leader within the management team
- Keep abreast of industry alerts and developments and provide relevant insights to internal teams
- Analyse and assimilate market, therapy area and product information to provide consultancy advice on product differentiation, positioning, and marketing strategy
Results and delivery - scientific insights and writing support- Support the generation and review of content for accounts ensuring all material is scientifically credible, fair and balanced scientific/clinical
- Provide advice on how to distil complex science into clear, well-structured and meaningful communications across multiple therapy areas and for different audiences
- Ensure content produced translates science with integrity, empathy and impact
Teamwork and communication- Coach and mentor fellow team members where needed
- Help teams deliver projects to the brief and within the required timelines, flagging any potential barriers as early as possible
- Consider resource needs for the business to drive organic growth and achieve the business plan
- Be the scientific partner with account handlers, to ensure optimal client and team delivery
- Communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing with clients and internal team members
- Provide constructive feedback for team members and colleagues to support personal development and growth
- Support budget generation and advise hours needed to develop content
- Drive and uphold the values

Qualifications and Experience- Educated to graduate level in Life Sciences. PhD is preferred
- Extensive medical writing experience having held previous senior writing roles such as principal medical writer, senior scientific advisor or team leader
- Extensive strategic medical writing experience including publications, ideally with a track record of working on pre-launch, launch and mature brands, developing scientific platforms, messaging, publication planning, core claims materials, and medical programme planning and delivery
- Previous pitch leadership experience with a proven track record of success
- Experience of client services and client delivery demonstrating deep understanding
